What are cataracts?

Cataract Surgery The normal eye allows light rays to pass through a clear lens to focus onto the retina.

Cataract Surgery Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens of the eye that interferes with light passing through to the retina. This results in blurred vision and sometimes glare symptoms.

  Treatment.
There is no medical treatment to reverse or prevent the development of cataracts. To achieve clear vision sometimes cataract surgery with implantation of an intraocular lens is required.

Cataract Treatment Our surgeons utilise state of the art techniques to remove cataracts. Patients attend the day stay unit, have the operation, and go home.  The cataract is broken into small pieces using high energy sound waves called phacoemulsification. An intraocular lens (IOL) is then implanted (see figure).

Cataract Treatment More than 98% of patients have their vision improved after cataract surgery. If you or someone you know is suffering from cataracts, schedule an appointment with one of our eye surgeons.
